AN INTRODUCTION TO EZYBOAT AT PENNINE MARINE

The Ezyboat folding trailer boat has been described - by both customers and experienced boat testers - as possibly the best new innovation in the market for recreational leisure boats to be developed at anytime during the last two decades.

THE IINVATIVE EZYBOAT FOLDING BOAT CONCEPT

The folding Ezyboat you can see here for sale at Pennine Marine is definitely a bit different. However the folding Ezyboat neatly fills a niche in the trailable leisure boating market. Pennine Marine are very experienced with trailer boats and we think think that the folding Ezyboat for sale here is the "probably" the ultimate family trailer boat.

The concept behind the folding Eyboat is very simple. On dry land Ezyboat is a simple "clamshell" road trailer. However on the quayside Ezyboat transforms itself in a few minutes into a capable family crusiing boat. Ezyboat just floats off the slipway like a duck to water.

Normally the Ezyboat on the water is powered by a outboard engine, of any size from 2.5hp up to 20hp.

However the Ezyboat can be set up for sailing with the optional sailing rig. An Ezyboat with the optional sailing kit will also work well as an power-assisted sailing boat, using a small auxillary outboard engine.

HOW DOES THE EZYBOAT TRAILER BOAT CONCEPT ACTUALLY WORK?

The Ezyboat is a conventional rigid fibreglass boat with a conventional set of road (boat trailer) wheels set into the boat's hull, just towards the Ezyboat’s stern.
Ezyboat is a unique clamshell design, with a large hinge amidships.
On the road, the front half of the Ezyboat folds neatly over the back half of the boat, thus closing the clamshell. The Ezyboat's clamsheet is unique -it is a simple and effective concept.
On the water, Ezyboat performs exactly as one would expect from a conventional rigid hulled boat of the same size.

EZYBOAT ON THE ROAD

On the road, the Ezyboat being towed by an average car looks like a conventional 2.5m (8 foot) long box trailer. The Ezyboat on the road is so light and simple it is easily towed behind almost any typical small family car.

The Ezyboat’s clamshell design gives you a cavernous space inside the trailer. This space can accommodate a large volume of either sailing or camping gear.
The Ezyboat can therefore be used on the road in exactly the same way as a conventional road box trailer. The Ezyboat is well balanced when towed behind a car.
Ezyboat can be manouvered on a car park, hardstanding or slipway by just one adult.

This stowage area inside the Ezyboat is extremely secure, as the front half of the Ezyboat's hull swings right up and completely over the stern. Gear inside the Ezyboat needs to be balanced and secured, exactly as you would when using a conventional road trailer. Thus your sailing or camping gear is secure below the locked down bow of the Ezyboat. This unique feature of the Ezyboat clamshell keeps the contents of the Ezyboat both waterproof and secure - a security feature a bit like a clam really!.

EZYBOAT - TRANSFORMED ON THE QUAYSIDE

Transformation of your Ezyboat trailer boat from “landlubber” to “mariner” on the quayside is extremely easy. The Ezyboat’s clamshell design makes this quayside transformation simplicity itself.

It takes about three minutes for a barely trained family to make the change and adapt the Ezyboat from land to sea- or back again - with absolutely no need for any IKEA style instructions and there are definitely no fiddly bits on the Ezyboat!

Firstly the Ezyboats unique travel bar is pulled forward. Then the Ezyboat's bow section is unlocked from its travel position and this bow section is swung forward on the hinge. We normally recommend that this Ezyboat swinging is done by two people, however with care just one adult can easily manage to open the Ezyboat.
With the Ezyboat bow now folded down and level - thus aligned with the stern - the Ezyboat's bow is then simply locked in position with a very simple pin.
Thus the Ezyboat is transformed into a normal rigid boat.

The next step in the Ezyboat’s transformation that the outboard engine is swung down from its travel position. The outboard engine is locked in position on the Ezyboat's transom. This positioning of the Ezyboat's outboard engine is even easier than you lifting on an outboard engine onto a normal rigid boat's transom -it simply tilts.

The third and final step with the Ezyboat is that the forward travel "hitch" section of the Ezyboat's trailer bar is just unpinned and stowed.

In just three minutes on the quayside with a "trained family crew", the Ezyboat is converted from road trailer to become a conventional small family boat.

LAUNCHING THE EZYBOAT

Thus transformed, the Ezyboat road trailer has adapted become a conventional rigid boat which is 4.4m (15 feet) long when floating on the water. Therefore the new Ezyboat is comparable in length with many small dingy's and other small "club type" rigid boats.

The Ezyboat (without engine) weights in at just 250kg, making it a lightweight boat that can be easily launched by one or two people.
Launching the Ezyboat is absolute simplicity itself, as the built-in road wheels means there is no separate road trailer to manoeuvre. We would say that the Ezyboat really lives up to its name on the slipway - it's easy !
The Ezyboat is simply rolled down a slipway - on its own wheels - down into the water. Ezyboat just floats off when the water is deep enough - therefore launching it really is is kids stuff.
Once the Ezyboat is floating by itself on the water the ezyboats road wheels are simply retracted upwards by a lever and secued with a pin. The Ezyboats wheels are spring loaded, so not even any winding. Child's play!
On the water, the Ezyboat's wheels both fully recess upwards into the Ezyboat's hull, leaving a smooth and conventional hydrodynamic hull beneath the Ezyboat.
Once on the water, no water enters the Ezyboat through either the hinge or the trailer wheel slots - it is a conventional and very dry boat.

EZYBOAT ON THE WATER

On the water the Ezyboat performs exactly like a conventional small rigid boat when it is used under either sail or with power.
The Ezyboat is very stable and surprisingly fast- what is aerodyamic on the road is hydrodynamic on the water.
The Ezyboat will happily take four to five adults, so is ideal for cruising or exploring with family and friends.
The Ezyboat hull design is a traditinal shallow gullwing, makning it inherently stable. The Ezyboat feels very stable and secure on the water. We like the Ezyboat’s stability - this makes it feel safe and secure for inexperienced boaters.

The Ezyboat has fairly low freeboard, with well rounded edges. Therefore a swimmer's can easily enter the water and swimmers getting back on board your Ezyboat can do so easily.

The seating area inside the Ezyboat is very generous and comfortable for a rigid boat - this allowing a comfortable and pleasent day out on the lakes. Some cusions are fitted, more can be brought from home or purchased as optional extras.
Ezyboat also makes a good stable fishing boat, having flat decks and plenty of space inside the ezyboat for fishing rods, bait, nets etc.

The Ezyboat is ideal to use for gently cruising on lakes, rivers and reservoirs. In our opinion Ezyboat is quite simply superb for anywhere in the Cumbia and the whole of the Lake District - the iconic lakes of Windermere, Derwent or Coniston etc are just made for family day trips in the Ezyboat. Ezyboat is just simply very "family friendly" for fun days out on the water.

However out on the sea the Ezyboat is rated to RCD category C, so can be used quite safely inshore in normal sea and weather conditions. It will cut through chop, alibet with some spray over the bow in rough weather. Only if the bow of the Ezyboat is undertaking high speed running through choppy seas will splash become a problem. Again, out on the sea the Ezyboat feels safe, stable and secure in even choppy sea conditions.

EZYBOAT WITH AN OUTBOARD ENGINE

The Ezyboat will take the full range of normal tiller steering outboard engines. The Ezyboat will take any tiller steering engine up to 25hp.
Pennine Marine can supply Yamaha, Suzuki, Mariner, Tohastu or Honda outboard engines to go with your Ezyboat.
However the largest outboard engine we normally recommend is used on the Ezyboat is a 20hp - with this displacement hull there is no benefit for you to go for the more powerful outboard engine over the 20hp.

We would recommend that, for fast motoring only, the Ezyboat is fitted with a 20hp or 15hp outboard engine. For Windermere or other lakes with speed limits, a 10hp or 15hp outboard engine will be adequete.

OUTBOARD ENGINES BRANDS TO GO WITH THE EZYBOAT

Please note that the Mariner outboard engines are presented on the standard Ezyboat UK price list and on the Ezyboat website. However as the leading Northern England centre for outboard engine sales and service, Pennine Marine will normally supply you one of the two leading brands of outboard engine- either a Yamaha or Suzuki outboard. The Ezyboat will be very good with the lightweight and fuel efficent Suzuki's DF15 and DF20 outboards that are due out in July 2012.

EZYBOAT AS A SILENT RUNNER

If you want to be really innovative with the engine on your new Ezyboat as well as the innovative Ezyboat itself, then the all electric 4hp Torqueedo outboards can be used for "silent running" - stealtily and silently gliding over the lakes! These Torqueedo's are now in our Skipton showroom.

EZYBOAT OPTIONAL SAILING RIG

The Ezyboat can be supplied with an optional sailing kit - this sailing rig coverts the Ezyboat into a small sailing boat. This Ezyboat sailing kit is a conventional two–sail rig with mainsail and jibsheet.
The Ezyboat sailing kit is a complete set of mast, boom, main sail, jib sail, dagger board and rudder assembly - with all main sheets, jib sheets and blocks.The Ezyboat sailing optional pack comes complete with all ropes and standing and running rigging. This sailing rig simply pops into the mast slot.
On the water with the sailing kit, the Ezyboat handles like a conventional, but stable, sailing dinghy.
The Ezyboat’s sailing stability makes it ideal for sailing or cruising with family or friends. Ezyboat is a super beginners sailing boat.

EZYBOAT - SAILING AND CANOEING CLUB SUPPORT BOAT AND WORKS RESCUE BOAT.
The key innovations of the Ezyboat are the hinge and the fully recessed trailer wheels. As well as the obvious family market, these unique features of the Ezyboat makes it suitable for two other roles;

Ezyboat Sailing and Canoe Club Support Boat
All sailing and canoe clubs know the hassle of launching a rigid boat, fixing the engine and stowing a separate boat trailer.
The Ezyboat can be launched quicky by just one or two club members, with no separate trailer and the engine already pre-positioned. Ezyboat is very stable and with a low freeboard and with lots of internal space Ezyboat makes an ideal club support and rescue boat. Ezyboat's stability and low freeboard makes it eminantly suitable for recovery of either canoeists, or new trainee sailors at RYA training schools.The Ezyboat also takes up minimal space in the club's boatshed, allowing more space for other boat's and keeping the baot and outboard engine secure.

Ezyboat- Workboat - Road Towable Support and Rescue Traditionally small workboats have been kept moored alongside where they are needed - leaving them vulnerable to theft or vandalism in remote or unsupervised areas. Ezyboat's to features allows the workcrew to take their precuiuos workboat with them to a worksite, simply towed there behind a van.

EZYBOAT RCD AND EUROPEAN TYPE APPROVAL CERTIFICATION

Ezyboat is fully compliant with all necessray UK and European legislation, for both water and road use. (Pennine Marine quite simply would not sell it unless it was compliant - so we checked).
Ezyboat has a current RCD Recreaional Craft Directive certification allowing it to be used for up to five persons and in "C class" water (i.e. so it is safe for all inland waters and inshore sea use).
Ezyboat has a separate European Type approval for the trailers. This allows it to be safely used throughout the EU on all roads, up to legal towing speeds.

EZYBOAT -BOATCARE AND SERVICING

Ezyboat boatcare and servicing is all essentially very similar to the care you would need on a traditional boat, engine and trailer combination.
Ezyboat can be cleaned and serviced exactly as you would a conventional boat and trailer. Ezyboat is very easily washed and cleaned.
The Ezyboat trailer/wheels should be checked visually before starting each trip and the wheel hubs flushed with fresh water after every immersion (exactly as you should with a normal trailer). Tyres need to be replaced when worn or defective.
Ezyboat should be serviced at least annually - this is mainly the check on the trailer roadworthyness.
Engines sold with our Ezyboats are fully covered by the separate manufacturer's warrenty and guarantee. Service intervals as standard.
