RIBS, BOAT AND ENGINES- MARINE SERVICE CENTRE

AN INTRODUCTION TO SERVICING AT PENNINE MARINE;
OUTBOARD ENGINES SERVICING, INBOARD ENGINE SERVICING, ENGINE OVERHAUL AND REPAIR, RIB SERVICING, BOAT SERVICING AND TRAILER SERVICING

According to the two major outboard engine manufacturers - Suzuki and Yamaha (who between them supply nearly 50% of UK outboards) - Pennine Marine is the best equiped and most advanced marine service centre in Northern England - and probably anywhere in the UK.

Pennine Marine specialise in servicing and repairs to all outboard engines, however most inboards engines brands can be also be serviced and repaired. We also service, repair and upgrade ribs, boats, trailers and marine electonics.

We specialise in the servicing of nearly all makes and brands of outboard engines, including Yamaha, Suzuki, Torqueedo, Tohastu, Honda, Mercury/Mariner and almost all Johnson Evinrudes.

OUTBOARD AND INBOARD ENGINES - OUR CAPABILITY AND CAPACITY
Pennine Marine's outboard/inboard engine servicing and engineering workshop at Skipton has all the necessary training, on-line systems, servicing equipment, special tooling and manufacturers computerised outboard engine testing diagnostic software that is necessaruy to inspect, service, repair and test all of the following engine types and sizes;
- outboard engines service and repair - all outboards up to 350hp
- inboard engines service and repair up to 600hp (hopwever the maximum boat size is 12m long).

All four stroke and two stroke inboard and outboard engines - petrol and diesel - can be serviced at Pennine Marine, provided new parts are still available from the manufacturers.

INBOARD AND OUTBOARD SERVICING AND REPAIR FACILITIES

Our modern engineering workshop in Skipton was purpose built - newly bult and to our own design - slightly over nine years.

Pennine Marine has here in south Skipton superb "A" road connections from all counties in Northern England. We have ample free customer parking, we only use concreted boat hardstanding, our yard is extremely secure. Our servicing facility is easily accessed straight off the Skipton bypass - all vehicles including articulated lorries and boat transporter low-loaders can be accomodated.

The large, open plan workshop layout for outboard and inboard engine servicing was designed around the "best practice" principles found in the automotive sector.

Our cavernous indoor enclosed workshop space allows us to work simultaneously on up to six large customer' boat's and concurrently at least a dozen "independent" outboard engines.

All servicing work on your outboard or nboard engine will only be undertaken indoors by our factory-trained technicians. The techicians will therefore working on your outboard engine in a covered, dry, clean and safe environment.

Testing and running of your outboard engine is either done using diagnostic software, and/or your outboard is run in our large test tank.

The concreted yard is fitted with pollution control devices to alow boat cleaning and "on the boat" engine testing. The yard is only used during daytime - all boats and engines are kept indoors overnight.

We find that working in this indoor environment keeps our outboard engine servicing standards consistently high. We aim to produce a noticeably higher standard of outboard engine servicing work than a boater would expect to find at elsewhere at a normal marine outboard engine dealers "shed".

Working in a controlled indoor environment also dramatically reduces the volume of after-sales problems we experience with service and repairs of both inboard and outboard engines. We do have some- because we are human- and we endevour to put these right. It also minimises the issue with hidden defects. The efficent workshop layout maximises productivity, thus keeping our outboard and inboard engine servicing charges low by comparison with the rest of the marine industry.

A unique facility at Pennine Marine is our full size dynamic test tank, easily the largest in the UK. Our tank has the facility to run outboard engines of up to 350hp at full power, whilst monitoring an engine in a safe and controlled test environment. This test tank is often used by Yamaha's technical team, simply because it is larger than Yamaha's own tank at Weybridge).

Your outboard engine's performance is calibrated against manufacturer's factory settings by our technicians, using the latest computerised sensors and diagnoistics. Printouts of our engine reports are handed to all customers who have the modern fuel-injected four-stroke engines up[on completion of your servicing.

SECURITY DURING BOAT AND ENGINE SERVICING

Pennine Marine at Skipton has a large secure lockable external yard, which is only used during the daytime.

Our customer's boats, ribs and outboard engines are always locked indoors at night, keeping them secure, dry and warm.

The main building with your "valuables" in it is covered by an remotely monitored alarm system,automatically linked to a manned security centre and from there directly to the North Yorkshire Constabulary.

To ensure that we have space for secure overnight storage of your boat, please always book your boat in here (rather than just turn up unannounced). Small outboard engines can be delivered at anytime we are open.

BOAT AND ENGINE CLEANING

We carry out a complimentary clean on all boats, ribs and outboards brought here for servicing or repair.

Deep cleaning and valeting is also available. If you require deep cleaning or valetting, this will be quoted by us after an inspection of your boat.

When booking, can we ask that please have ready your;
BOAT AND ENGINE MAKE AND MODEL
BOAT AND (ESPECIALLY) ENGINE IDENTIFICATION (SERIAL) NUMBER.

We do ask that you let us know all the recent history and in particular if there are any known probems, defects or issues with your boat or engine.

For smaller outboard tiller steering outboard engines (anything carried by hand), you are able to deliver them at any day and time we are open (we are six days). You can therefore drop off your small (carryable) engine at anytime that is convient for you.

For all larger boats and engines (anything on a trailer), we must insist on a prior booking. Our workshop is constantly popular - with boats and engines coming here from across a wide regional area, including the Midlads and scotland, as well as Yorkshire, Lancashire and Windermere We will normally ask you for one to two weeks notice before your boat or larger outboard engine arrives here for service or repair. We do use this "waiting time" to order your parts in advance.

A same day turnaround is available on both standard annual engine servicing and also for winterising. However same-day turnaround needs pre-booking and this same day turnaround engine service must be agreed and booked with us in advance. Normally we need to have seen and know the boat and/or engine previously in order to offer you a same day turnaround service.

OUTBOARD AND INBOARD ENGINE SERVICING - PRICES AND RATES

All our outboard and inboard engine servicing is charged at a reasonable rates. We aim to be competitive on all boat and engine servicing with any other approved dealership.

Service rates and reapir quotes for all boats and engines service and repair will be quoted by phone or e-mail.

All spare parts that are changed during a service or repair are charged for "at manufacturers rrp", so new spare parts are at cost without any hidden mark ups. We only install geninue new manufacturers spare parts.

We will not normally install any pattern or preowned spare parts (unless we have specifically agreed this with you in advance).

Full spare parts lists, including prices, of all items used in your engine service or repair will be provided to you, either with our initial quote, or upon completion.

All old boat and engine parts that are removed during a engine service or repair are kept by us until you collect your engine. This allows you to see what parts have been changed, and why.

We work on a "no surprises" basis for all servicing and repair prices. Our quotes will normally be comprehensive and complete. If we do discover unknown or unexpected defects during a service or repair, we will always contact you first before proceeding any further.

We aim to provide both good quality and good value for money on all our boat and engine. This is why so many of our customers keep coming back year after year and recommend their friends to visit here.

UNKNOWN ENGINES AND MAJOR DAMAGE REPAIRS,

We are also quite happy to inspect your engine and quote for any engine repair work, before we carry out any works on it.

Visual inspections and quotes (without us stripping the egine) are free.

In more complex cases, if we need to strip your engine for an inspection then the initial intrusive inspection will cost �50. We will strip and expose parts of a unknown or damaged engine to open it up and inspect damaged parts.

This service is often exceptionally useful for new owners, or owners who have unknown engines, or where there is an unknown extent of internal damage. This allows us to assess the full extent of repairs.It ensures you are fully aware of the final repair price before we start any major works.

If your engine is beyond economical or practicable repair, then this initial inspection cost is all you will be ever be charged.

MOBILE OUTBOARD AND INBOARD ENGINE SERVICING

Pennine Marine also operate mobile marine invboard and outboard engine servicing. We cover a wide geographical area from our base in Skipton, Yorkshire. Our mobile marine servicing and outboard engine covers all of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria. This area includes Whitby, Scarborough, Leeds, Bradford, York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Preston, Windermere,most of the Lake District. We also cover all the inland rivers, lakes and reservoirs of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.

BOAT RIGGING AND ENHANCEMENTS

Pennine Marine specialises in both customised rigging of new boats and also repairs/upgrading of older ribs and powerboats to the most modern standards.

Our rib and powerrboat rigging expertise ranges from simple repairs of broken cables throught to complete new engine installation and customised high-quality electromics for both leisure and commercial boats.

We also undertake seating and console enhancements.

RIB AND POWERBOAT ACCESSORIES

Accessories, both manufacturers standard and customised non-standard/bespoke, can be added to your rib or powerboat. A-frames, wake-towers, ski-poles and revised seating and consoles are regularly installed in the workshop at Pennine Marine.

RIB AND POWERBOAT BOAT COVERS

Covers for all sizes and shapes of boats are available, custom made to suit your boat. We can supply you either a simple mooring cover, or a customised and tailored boat cover that can be kept on your rib or boat during long journeys.

MARINE ELECTRONICS INSTALLATION

In recent years Pennine Marine have installed the full scope of marine electronics, ranging from simple GPS units for casual leisure users right through to intergrated multi-function radar and sensor systems - controlled on touchscreen plotters - for professional operators such as government fisheries patrol boats.

These marine electronics can be fitted to a wide range of ribs, powerboats, cruisers, jetboats and jetskis and fishing vessels, both new and older vessels.

INSURANCE ASSESSMENT AND ACCIDENT REPAIRS

Pennine Marine have considerable experience over many years of liaising with all the regional and national marine insurance companies to deal with the consequences of your boat or engine being involved in a "bit of a prang".

Following an accident or incident we are quite happy to inspect and quote for any engine and minor boat repairs on your behalf. This repair quote can be presented to your insurance assessors and/or underwriters at the start of the your insurance claim process.

ADVICE- INITIAL INSPECTION AND PROBLEM SOLVING DIAGOSIS INBOARD AND OUTBOARD ENGINES

As part of Pennine Marine's full marine engine and parts service, we offer advice and assistance to customers who are experiencing issues with either running their own engine, or who need advice about an preowned engine they have recently purchased.

This advice is preferably done by us in person, with us inspecting the boat and/or outboard engine.
However we can often initially deal with many issues by e-mail and/or over the phone. This advice is offered as free service. We normally expect to resolve most issues fairly quickly - if not, we can advise you on what spare parts, servicing or repairs will need undertaking.

Please note that for the free advice service by phone, we will take your contact details and then we call you back.

We ask that all outboard engine owners appreciate their engines - especially computerised 4-strokes outboard engines - are becoming increasingly sophisticated and complicated. Therefore we ask you to respect the limits of what a phone call or quick visual assessment can achieve - before a full inspection and/or service of your engine becomes necessary.
